News status update

Ok, I think I finally have a solution in place that works. And what's more, I got it working on the gwg as well. w00t! So, yeah, we'll see how that goes. At least I know have good backups for everything, and if b2 doesn't work out, I know I can import all the posts into Thingamablog. Which is a nice program, but I wanted something web-based. But I'll keep it bookmarked in case I need it.
In other news.....snow. Yeah. We've got about 4-5 inches in DFW area, and it's still snowing. The roads aren't iced over YET, but I have a feeling they will be tonight. Possible three-day weekend! And I really want to build a snowman. ^_^;

End of Bloggering news

Blogger announced recently that they were terminating the ability to publish to a blog via FTP. Which is how I've been making news posts here for the past 9 years, as well as to the gwg, jade/graphics, and even the little FFXI character blog that I started. Basicly, they're saying that to continue using Blogger, you either have to use their free hosting, blogspot.com, or point a custom domain to their servers. Which means all content on your blog must be on their servers. Aside from the problems I have with what basicly amounts to forcing all their users to store information on their servers, (thus, placing it completly under Google's control), my site basicly only uses Blogger for the news posts. Nothing else. Everything else on my sites is maintained by me, on the server that I pay for. I would not be allowed to upload said items to Google's server. I would also not be allowed to use my own scripts, such as adding my Twitter up there and linking to my devArt account, as well as linking new graphics on the sidebar.

In short, I, and many other Blogger users, are getting screwed. Now, Blogger says that only .05% of users actually use FTP, which I don't doubt is valid. But I have a feeling that almost ALL of those .05% of users are actual bloggers, whereas a lot of the blogs I see on blogspot are just spam pools. I somehow don't think this will benift Google, since almost all of the people that chimed in on their announcement blog have said they're leaving. And many of those have very large blogs. Will that make a difference? Probally not. At this stage, I honestly don't have any faith that Blogger will reinstate FTP usage. Will I stop using Google enterily? No, actually, I won't. I don't really use my gmail account for anything, but I still love and use Google Docs (though, I will spend my free time this week backing up everything from there, just in case).

I honestly don't expect this post to even be noticed, knowing how few people actually see these posts. But, it was something that needed saying, so if there are some odd testing posts over the next couple of months, you'll know why.

Backpost: A quick note

This blog has been around for nine years. Most of that time has been random personal posts, a lot of which included OMGDRAMA from college. Suffice to say, older posts than this will be more personal and, in some cases, whiney and depressing. There are still some good posts here and there, and you're more than welcome to go back and read them if you want. I'm keeping them for two reasons. One, I'm a packrat, even about my posts, and I can't just delete them. And two, it shows how far I've come in my life and occasionally provides amusement.

So, yeah, nothing past here was tagged or titled from moving to b2evo. And while there is possibility for amusement, you'll also notice the writing slowly degrade to short snippits of randomness. So be warned, past this point, drama awaits!

so, new year

And it's cold. I hate winter. ><

Anyhoo, new year. Yep. 2010. And I can't think of a damn thing to say about it. Seriously. I don't make resolutions, so I don't have that to say. I tend not to have those 'looking back over the past year' type of reflective moments. For me, a new year means the date changes. And that it'll be a full year until my family gets together. Sure, I have things to look forward to, but I tend not to compartmentalize my time in perfect sections. If I didn't need to know the date for work, I probally wouldn't even realize when months change. I'm not sure what that says about me, but yeah. There ya go. ^_^;

Other things? Well, Christmas break was nice. 2 week vacation with the family, got to see and play with my nephew and get some books I wanted. Also had a white Christmas. Odd. Cat didn't like it, though. XD I wanted to get a picture of her in the snow, but she broke out of her collar and it took me a while to catch her. Oh well, maybe if can get a harness for her instead that she can't get out of, I'll try it some other time. I really do need one. I had one, but it never fit her. Then I lost it, so I can't even try and adjust it.

So, right, Christmas. Sorry. ^_^; Got some books, then a gift card for more books, which was awesome. Mom and I went over on New Year's day (since she was off) and I spent my gift cards and we hung out, which was loads of fun. I look forward to that every year. ^_^ My boyfriend came up that last weekend to meet the folks and then we went to the mall to hang out and that was fun as well. Then, we woke up Sunday morning to drive back and found an inch of snow on the ground. >< Fortunatly, no ice, so the roads were fine and we made it back ok, if tired. I love going to visit my folks and family, but I hate the drive.

OH! And new Doctor Who. Watched the first one air on BBC America after Christmas, but had to wait until I got back to see the second. EEEEEEEE! It was awesome and sad and thrilling and a bit cheeky, all at the same time. How could I not be excited? Though, I am sad to see David Tennent leave. I loved him as the Doctor, and from all accounts, he really loved the part as well. But, things move on, so we'll see how Matt Smith does. I'm not so sure about him, but I'm totally willing to wait a few episodes and see how he does. After all, I hated that they replaced Christopher Eccleston, enough to stop watching for a while, but then gave Tennent a chance and wound up really enjoying his Doctor, so we'll see how Smith does.

I apologize for not having any website stuff done lately. I've been busy trying to get other things organized and get distracted by games. Stupid addictive games. XD

end of year approachith....

So, it's been a while. What have I been up too?

Website-wise, not a lot. I've kinda given up making updates for the gwg, though I still want to keep it up and running, espically with Geocities going away. With the end of Geocities, most GW sites have now gone away for good, but I want some kind of reference site to stay up. Well, aside from Melody's. ^^; Not really much else on the website front from me, though. Been focusing on some other things.

Game-wise, almost done with Kingdom Hearts! I'm taking it with me when I go to my uncle's house for Thanksgiving as it'll give me something extra to do. I have to spend time grinding and get some more levels before I can beat the final boss, so I've been avoiding it. But I'll get it done, one way or the other. I've also been playing a lot of Oblivion lately. Got some awesome community mods I've been having fun with, and finally installed Shivering Isles. Though, that isn't working out as well as I want since my framerate drops even more while there, and when it's not lagging, it's giving me motion sickness. >< Still, Shivering Isles is a fucked-up place, and is actually a lot of fun. FFXI is still dragging me back in, though it's a bit slow. I've missed doing things with my linkshell, and we've been having some fun with some missions lately, so I'm looking forward to tonight.

D&D-wise, I joined a second game. We're doing Pathfinder, and I'm playing a half-elf barbarian which is already a lot of fun. XD Belladonna is kinda on hiatus until after the holidays, which is sad, but I understand the need for it.

Other than that, there's not a lot else. Working on trying to get back into arts, which means I need to sit down once a week for sketching again. >< I need to do the steak reward again for sketching a certian amount. When I was doing that, I felt more motivated. Sad, yeah? XD
